Brent Urban Becomes No. 16

The Baltimore Ravens have yet another player to go down for the season with an injury. Defensive end Brent Urban suffered a Lisfranc foot injury during the second quarter of Week 3’s game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A fourth-year rookie, Urban has dealt with injuries in the past, from an ACL injury in 2014 and a torn biceps in 2015. Although he played all 16 games in 2016, he had no starts and recorded only 10 tackles. Unfortunately, he becoming a player that has more injury seasons than active ones.

According to an article by Ryan Mink of Baltimoreravens.com, defensive ends Bronson Kaufusi and rookie 3rd round draft pick Chris Wormley will both have the opportunity to be Urban’s replacement. Neither defensive end has seen any playing time. Kaufusi was signed in 2016 and was placed on IR after he broke his ankle during training camp. Wormley has not played a regular season game.

This team can’t afford anymore injuries. To date, they have 16 players on injured reserve; seven on defense {corner backs Tavon Young, Maurice Canady, Sheldon Price, Brandon Boykin, linebackers Albert McClellan, Bam Bradley, defensive end Brent Urban} and nine on offense {running backs Danny Woodhead, Kenneth Dixon, tight end Crockett Gillmore, guard/tackle Marshal Yanda, Alex Lewis, guard Nico Siragusa, center Brandon Kublanow, tackle Stephane Nembot and wide receiver Tim White}.

Out of the 16 players on IR, seven are eligible for return {Yanda, Woodhead, Gillmore, White, Canady, Bradley and Urban}. According to the new NFL rule, two players can be brought back from injured reserve during the season as long as they were on the active roster as of September 3. Of the seven eligible-to-return players, only two don’t have season-ending injuries and can return; cornerback Maurice Canady and running back Danny Woodhead.

If this team can stay healthy, they could easily become a top five NFL team. If they can’t remain healthy and the back-ups can’t step up, this team is in trouble.
